Breaching the Wall
Light flooded the room. Hot and weightless as the implosion tore through the Altum Ega, Ixie thought of the target of their ill-fated mission, the Wall, and if anyone would ever know what was on the other side of it.
A sci-fi adventure written with C.R. Berry. A wall surrounds the universe and is closing in, crushing everything inside. A team of scientists, including one Human, Rebecca Joshi, are assigned aboard a spaceship called the Altum Ega to find a way of stopping the Wall or getting through it. The Altum Ega crew contends with Wall-worshipping extremists, an alien race turned into monsters as a side-effect of the Wall’s collapse, and a saboteur manipulating events on board for their own ends.
There is intergalactic adventure, action and personality clashes as the scientists discover the Wall’s secrets and chase down leads across multiple galaxies. At its heart, the book is a mystery asking a huge question—what lies beyond the known universe?
Breaching the Wall is due to be published by Elsewhen Press in 2026.
Miramor
A whispering noise filled her ears and her vision dimmed. Everything at the periphery of her sight was a blur but the orb was blazingly clear. The more she focussed, the more the murmuring noise started to sound like distinct voices.
K Dunford’s adventure novel, Miramor, has an ensemble cast discovering strength in their unique traits and circumstances. It begins in Oxford but spans six imagined worlds, incorporating elements of fantasy, fables and even a little science fiction.
When grieving 18 year-old Hannah activates real magic in a charity-shop crystal ball, she gains the ability to witness other realms. She starts searching for a world where her best friend, Tom, is still alive but instead she is enlisted by a High Priestess to defeat a coming evil.
Elsewhere, schoolgirl Faith is kidnapped to an underground city to exile a god called the Famine; gambler Mesaeri flees her village after making a deadly bet; and Tom wakes up in the wagon of a travelling bard. These seeming coincidences are revealed to be an interwoven destiny.
Miramor is not yet published. K Dunford is seeking an agent for this novel.
In progress
A specialist investigator with Smith & Pearce had this to say: It is not clear yet why the anti-GraD defences at Cybera failed. Our investigation is ongoing.
K Dunford is also working on Veto Gravity, a sci-fi crime novel set in the thrilling world of insurance; that is, insurance for a new type of natural disaster—gravity disturbances. If there is one thing a person can rely on, surely it’s the laws of physics. Not anymore.
She is also working on Breaching the Wall 2 with C.R. Berry.
Poetry
K Dunford’s poetry tends towards the abstract with ominous tones or hints of nostalgia.
From the Wayside
From the wayside I knew storms
Raging against your overgrown grave
River wild, sunburnt skin
These are bad omens
Ghosts of lust whisper sins in my ear
Between the pains in my chest
Now my barren heart is cruel
My body bound to early death
Narcissist
Survive the chosen fate without reknown
Dancers without bodies
Ignite the dust
Through the door a king sits smiling like a beating heart
His songs were of lore
In the supernovae of his dreams
There’s nothing that I wouldn’t do
Just a girl and my hand rests on a velvet chest
Fearless and carefree
He is not afraid to touch me
So there’s just one more adventure
To tear this down from underneath
We’d burn the world
That’s why I taste no regret
Only the peaceful solitude of the ever-burning stars
Inchoate
It is in heart, innate
Inchoate
After faith
In wake of fate
Trusting more in lust of late
I am become a race of hate
